About the Role

The Accounting Clerk / Bookkeeper provides financial and accounting support to ensure accurate record-keeping, reporting, and compliance. This role supports day-to-day financial operations and assists with maintaining strong internal controls.

Key Responsibilities
Accounting and Financial Support
• Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable processes
• Prepare, review, and process invoices, receipts, and expense documentation
• Support bank, credit card, and cash reconciliation activities
• Assist with payroll documentation and reporting as required
• Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with organizational policies

Record Keeping and Reporting
• Maintain organized and up to date financial files and documentation
• Assist with basic financial reporting and summaries for management
• Support month end and year end processes as required
• Ensure financial records are retained in accordance with confidentiality and privacy requirements

Administrative Support
• Provide clerical and administrative support related to market operations
• Assist with data entry, filing, and document management
• Support internal communication between market staff and finance teams
• Respond to internal inquiries related to invoices, payments, or financial records

General
• Attend training and staff meetings as required
• Handle sensitive and confidential financial information with professionalism
• Support audits, reviews, or financial requests as required
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Manager or supervisor



Pay range: $45,000 - $51,000 per year
Employment Type: Permanent, 3-month probationary period
Location: Glooscap Landing Seafood Market
Benefits Eligibility: Benefits become available after three (3) months of uninterrupted service.

Requirements

The successful candidate will possess the following:

•        Diploma or certificate in Accounting, Finance, or Bookkeeping from a recognized institution

•         Minimum two (2) years of progressive experience in bookkeeping or accounting support, preferably within a retail, sales-driven, or multi-revenue environment

•        Demonstrated proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Intacct (Sage Intacct), or other modern accounting and financial management systems

•        Solid working knowledge of retail financial operations, including cash handling controls, daily sales reconciliation, and inventory-related accounting processes

•        Experience supporting payroll processing, accounts payable and receivable, and monthly bank reconciliations

•        Exceptional attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy and numerical competencyProven ability to handle confidential financial and payroll information with discretion, integrity, and professionalism

•        Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

 

Assets

•        Experience working in a public sector, Indigenous organization, or not-for-profit environment

•        Seafood market, food-based retail, or fresh-goods market experience

•        Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems and daily cash handling

 

Additional Requirements

•        Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check and Reference Check is required

 

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods

  • Ability to perform repetitive office tasks such as typing and filing

  • Occasional lifting of office supplies or materials

 

Working Conditions

• Work takes place in an office-based environment supporting market operations

• Permanent, full time salaried position

• Standard business hours, Monday to Friday

• Regular interaction with management, finance staff, and market operations staff

• Exposure to confidential and sensitive financial information

• Structured office environment requiring accuracy, professionalism, and discretion
