About the Role
Duties include:
Maintenance and Groundskeeping Support
• Assist with general maintenance and upkeep of community buildings, facilities, and outdoor spaces
• Support lawn care, grass cutting, trimming, and general grounds maintenance
• Assist with garbage collection, waste disposal, and site cleanup activities
• Perform basic painting, cleaning, and repair tasks as assigned
• Support facility inspections and identify maintenance concerns requiring attention
• Assist with setting up and taking down equipment, tables, tents, and materials for community events and activities
• Help maintain tools, equipment, and maintenance supplies in a clean and organized manner
Operational Support
• Assist with seasonal maintenance tasks and community beautification projects
• Support maintenance staff with work orders and daily operational tasks
• Assist with loading, unloading, and moving materials, equipment, and supplies
• Help ensure facilities and workspaces remain safe, clean, and organized
• Support minor maintenance and labour-related tasks as directed by supervisors
Community and Team Support
• Work collaboratively with maintenance staff and other departments
• Provide respectful and professional interactions with community members, staff, and visitors
• Contribute to maintaining safe and welcoming community spaces
• Maintain a positive and community-minded approach to work
General
• Attend training, safety meetings, and team meetings as required
• Follow all workplace health and safety procedures and organizational policies
• Maintain professionalism and confidentiality when handling sensitive information
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor

Physical Demands
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods

• Ability to lift, carry, and move maintenance tools, materials, and equipment
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including groundskeeping and manual labour
• Ability to safely operate maintenance tools and equipment as required
Working Conditions
• Work takes place in indoor and outdoor environments throughout the community
• Term position for eight (8) weeks during the summer
• Exposure to varying weather conditions, dust, noise, and outdoor environments
• Regular interaction with community members, staff, and contractors
• Active work environment requiring physical labour, flexibility, and teamwork
About the Company
Glooscap First Nation is seeking to hire Maintenance Summer Students for 8 to 14 week summer employment terms. This position will support the maintenance, cleanliness, appearance, and general upkeep of community buildings, grounds, and facilities while providing valuable hands-on experience in maintenance operations and community infrastructure support.
The successful candidate will work with maintenance staff and other departments to support day-to-day maintenance activities throughout the community. Duties may include groundskeeping, basic repairs, cleaning, facility preparation, outdoor maintenance, and supporting community events and projects. This position is intended to provide practical work experience while contributing to the upkeep and safety of community spaces and facilities.
