About the Role
General Maintenance & Repairs
• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to buildings, equipment, and infrastructure
• Identify and address maintenance issues in a timely and efficient manner
• Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition
Construction & Project Support
• Complete basic construction tasks including drywall repair, painting, flooring, and general carpentry
• Assist with small-scale renovations and building improvements
• Install and repair fixtures, doors, windows, and other building components
• Support contractors or other team members on-site as needed
Groundskeeping & Outdoor Work
• Complete light landscaping tasks including mowing, trimming, and seasonal upkeep as required
• Support snow removal and general outdoor maintenance
Equipment Operation
• Operate and maintain hand and power tools and small equipment safely
• Ensure proper handling, storage, and maintenance of all tools and equipment
Health, Safety & Compliance
• Follow all workplace health and safety procedures
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment
• Report hazards, damages, or required repairs promptly
Physical Demands
• Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and perform physical labour for extended periods
• Ability to lift and carry tools, materials, and equipment
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions
• Manual dexterity required for construction and repair tasks
Working Conditions
• Work takes place in residential housing, community facilities, and construction environments
• Regular local travel between job sites may be required
• Exposure to construction environments, noise, dust, and weather conditions
• Occasional evening or weekend work may be required based on operational needs
Requirements
• Minimum 2 years of experience in construction, property maintenance, or a related field and/or a relevant certificate, diploma, or technical training in a related trade
• Experience performing basic construction tasks such as drywall, painting, flooring, carpentry, or general repairs
• Valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License (preferred)
• Ability to safely operate and maintain hand and power tools
• Basic knowledge of building systems and construction practices
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong organizational and time-management skills
• Reliable, self-motivated, and detail-oriented
• Experience working in or with First Nations communities is considered an asset

About the Company
The Maintenance Worker – Construction & Property Maintenance is responsible for supporting the upkeep, repair, and improvement of Glooscap First Nation’s housing, facilities, and community infrastructure. This role focuses on hands-on construction and maintenance tasks, including minor renovations, repairs, and general building upkeep.
The position requires a practical, reliable individual with experience in construction-related work who can complete tasks safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
