About the Role

Groundskeeping & Landscaping
• Maintain lawns, gardens, and outdoor spaces including mowing, trimming, edging, and planting
• Perform seasonal cleanup such as leaf removal, debris clearing, and general upkeep
• Support planting, watering, and basic care of trees, shrubs, and flowers
• Maintain the overall appearance and cleanliness of community grounds

General Maintenance Support
• Assist with light maintenance tasks as required across community properties
• Report any maintenance issues or concerns observed during daily work
• Support minor repairs and general upkeep when needed

Equipment Operation
• Operate and maintain landscaping tools and small equipment such as mowers and trimmers
• Ensure safe handling, storage, and maintenance of all tools and equipment

Health, Safety & Compliance
• Follow all workplace health and safety procedures
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment
• Report hazards, damages, or required repairs promptly

Physical Demands
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform light to moderate physical labour for extended periods
• Ability to lift and carry tools, equipment, and landscaping materials
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Manual dexterity required for operating tools and equipment

Working Conditions
• Work takes place primarily outdoors on community grounds and properties
• Regular daytime hours with seasonal workload variations
• Exposure to weather, noise, and outdoor elements
• Use of landscaping tools and equipment on a regular basis
• Occasional support with light indoor maintenance tasks

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years experience in landscaping, groundskeeping, or outdoor maintenance

• Ability to perform lawn care, trimming, planting, and general grounds upkeep

• Ability to safely operate and maintain landscaping tools and small equipment

• Strong work ethic with attention to detail

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Good organizational and time-management skills

• Comfort working outdoors in varying weather conditions

• Valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License is considered an asset

• Experience working in or with First Nations communities is considered an asset

• Criminal Record Check required

About the Company

The Maintenance Worker – Groundskeeping & Landscaping is responsible for maintaining the outdoor spaces, grounds, and general appearance of Glooscap First Nation’s properties and community areas. This role focuses on landscaping, lawn care, seasonal upkeep, and light maintenance tasks.

The position requires a dependable individual who enjoys working outdoors and can complete tasks safely, efficiently, and with attention to detail.
