Duties & Responsibilities
Site & Event Security Operations
• Provide a professional and visible security presence to deter unlawful or disruptive behavior
• Conduct routine and random patrols (interior and exterior) as per site post orders
• Monitor assigned areas for safety hazards, policy violations, and suspicious activity
• Enforce site rules, event regulations, and company policies consistently and respectfully
• Secure entrances, exits, restricted zones, and high-risk areas
Access Control & Crowd Management
• Verify identification, credentials, tickets, or authorization for entry
• Screen bags or personal belongings in accordance with site procedures
• Manage queues and crowd flow during events
• Prevent unauthorized access to restricted or backstage areas
• Assist with controlled entry and exit during high-traffic periods
Incident Response & Emergency Management
• Respond promptly and calmly to disturbances, medical situations, or safety concerns
• Apply de-escalation techniques to resolve conflicts when appropriate
• Initiate emergency procedures including evacuation protocols when required
• Contact and coordinate with law enforcement, fire services, or EMS as necessary
• Preserve incident scenes and gather factual information for reporting
Observation, Documentation & Reporting
• Maintain detailed, accurate, and objective incident reports
• Complete daily activity logs and shift summaries
• Document safety concerns, hazards, and irregularities
Client & Public Interaction
• Provide professional customer service while maintaining authority
• Act as the first point of contact for visitors and event attendees
• Offer clear directions and assistance as required
• Represent Kluskap Security Services in a respectful and culturally aware manner
• Maintain a calm, courteous, and firm demeanor during challenging interactions
Safety & Risk Prevention
• Identify potential safety risks before they escalate
• Report maintenance concerns, environmental hazards, or unsafe conditions
• Monitor fire exits, alarm systems, and emergency equipment
• Support safe event setup and teardown where applicable
Communication & Team Coordination
• Maintain regular communication with supervisors and dispatch
• Relay accurate information during incidents
• Follow chain-of-command procedures
• Participate in briefings before and after shifts
• Collaborate with fellow security personnel to ensure seamless coverage
Professional Standards & Compliance
• Maintain required security licensing and certifications
• Adhere to Nova Scotia regulatory requirements for licensed security personnel
• Present a clean, professional appearance in proper uniform
• Protect confidential information obtained during assignments
• Demonstrate punctuality, reliability, and accountability
Physical & Operational Readiness
• Stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods
• Remain alert during long shifts, including evenings and weekends
• Work outdoors in varying weather conditions when required
• Lift or move moderate equipment related to event setup (as applicable)
Schedule: Primarily afternoon/evenings and weekends
Pay range: $20 Per Hour
Requirements
The successful candidate will possess the following: • Eligibility to obtain a Nova Scotia Security Guard licence • Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check required for licensing • Valid St. John Ambulance Standard First Aid & CPR Level C certification • Strong verbal and written communication skills • Professional demeanor with excellent customer service abilities • Sound judgment and decision-making skills under pressure • Ability to remain calm and composed in high-stress or emergency situations • Demonstrated integrity, reliability, and accountability • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision • Capacity to follow detailed post orders and operational procedures • Physical fitness to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and on short notice as required • Strong observational skills with attention to detail • Conflict resolution and de-escalation capability |
Assets The following qualifications would be considered assets: • Previous security experience (events, commercial sites, or crowd control) • Conflict management and de-escalation training • Experience preparing clear and detailed incident reports • Additional safety certifications (e.g., Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, WHMIS) • Reliable transportation within the Halifax Regional Municipality
Additional Requirements • Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check and Reference Check is required
