We are pleased to share an important development opportunity for emerging leaders within our community:
The Certified Emerging Indigenous Leaders (CEIL) Program, offered by AFOA Canada, is designed to empower Indigenous youth with the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to lead effectively in their communities.
About the Program
The CEIL program focuses on developing strong leadership capacity grounded in both:
Traditional Indigenous values, and
Contemporary leadership practices
Participants will gain knowledge in:
Governance and decision-making
Financial management
Community stewardship
Communication and leadership skills
The program combines interactive learning, mentorship from experienced Indigenous leaders, and practical application, ensuring participants are prepared to contribute meaningfully to their communities.
Program Outcomes
Upon completion, participants will be prepared to:
Make informed and responsible decisions
Manage community resources effectively
Lead initiatives that drive positive change
Strengthen governance and organizational practices
Certification is awarded by the AFOA Canada Board, recognizing participants as emerging Indigenous leaders.
Program Structure
Participants will:
Apply to the program
Join a cohort
Complete required courses and activities
Write the certification examination
Graduate and celebrate completion

Location: Ottawa, ON (in-person sessions) + Virtual learning

The program begins with orientation on April 9, 2026, with sessions continuing through July 2026.

We encourage eligible staff that are community members who are passionate about leadership and community impact to explore this opportunity as part of their professional and personal development.
If selected, Glooscap First Nation will support the cost of participation if Indigenous Learning Centre Scholarships are not secured. You are encouraged to apply for the scholarships, which can fully cover tuition and up to $2,400 in travel.
